"Dangling Participles" is a whimsical play on grammar.
Real-life dangling participles are figures of speech - usually, but not always, "ings" -- that modify not-so-obvious, or non-existent, objects in sentences.
Good example of participle use: Thirsting for water, the birds found a birdbath. The obvious object modified is birds.
Hanging participle example: Wishing she could sing, her notes hurt her ears. (Ever hear notes make a wish?)
